Experience a jail breakout with Discovery VR
Discovery VR, an arm of Discovery Communications, has launched a VR experience that gives viewers a true taste of the criminal underworld, and in particular, the adrenaline rush of staging a jail breakout.
The VR experience was launched ahead of the eighth season premiere of ‘I Almost Got Away With It’, the popular crime series on Discovery’s ID (Investigation Discovery) channel, on May 13.
The criminals profiled in ‘I Almost Got Away With It’ evaded justice for years by using their families, fake IDs or force to evade capture. According to Discovery, the new VR experience was inspired by renowned criminal Peter Gibbs’ daring prison escape.
“As the leaders in true crime programming, ID is all about providing our insatiable fans outlets to consume true crime content on all platforms,” said Kevin Bennett, general manager, Investigation Discovery. “We are excited to introduce the action-packed VR experience Jailbreak, offering our viewers first-hand access into just how these perpetrators almost got away with it.”
The five-minute Jailbreak virtual reality experience is brought to life through a partnership with ID, Indigo Films, Digital Cave Media, FogoMotion, and is powered by Discovery VR. The experience was shot on a six-camera GoPro rig, a three-camera rig with 220-degree lenses, and a Kodak 180-degree rig. Jailbreak is made available on multiple platforms including Discovery VR iOS and Android apps and Oculus devices. Additionally, a 360-degree video of the experience will be available at ID.com, YouTube, Facebook, and DiscoveryVR.com, where users can use their mouse or arrow keys to navigate their escape.
Discovery VR, Discovery Communications’ buzzworthy virtual reality offering, is comprised of more than 85 experiences spanning everything from underwater explorations to skiing, slacklining and thrilling wildlife panoramas. With more than 650,000 app downloads to date and nearly 30 million cumulative views, Discovery VR continues to bring fans around world, transporting them to locations they may not otherwise be able to experience.
